After a six-year hiatus, the Indian Cultural Society (ICS) of Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya, proudly marked the triumphant return of its flagship cultural celebration — Muthamizh Vizha 2025. The event made a vibrant physical comeback on 10 May 2025, hosted at the MMU Cyberjaya campus, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of students, alumni, and culture enthusiasts.
Rooted in the rich traditions of Tamil heritage, Muthamizh Vizha — which celebrates the three pillars of Tamil culture: Iyal (literature), Isai (music), and Nadagam (drama) — has long been a cornerstone of ICS’s annual calendar. Its revival after more than half a decade was not just a nostalgic moment for past attendees, but a cultural milestone that reaffirmed the society’s commitment to preserving and promoting Indian traditions within the university community.
This Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM)-approved event was thoughtfully organized with a special focus on primary school students from Tamil schools across the region. With the aim of nurturing young talent and fostering a deep appreciation for their linguistic and cultural roots, Muthamizh Vizha 2025 served as a vibrant platform for children to express themselves through literature, music, and drama.
By engaging students at an early age, the event sought to inspire confidence, creativity, and cultural pride — encouraging them to embrace and celebrate their Tamil heritage.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from primary Tamil school students across three states — Wilayah Persekutuan, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan — with approximately 250 to 300 young participants showcasing their talents. These students competed in eight thoughtfully curated and culturally enriching competitions, including Thirukkural recitation, essay writing, debate, singing, drawing, public speaking, poem recitation, and storytelling. Each category was designed to not only highlight the students’ linguistic and creative abilities but also to deepen their connection to Tamil language, literature, and traditions.
The event was officially inaugurated by three esteemed guests: Mr. S.S. Pandian, Mr. Manisegar, and Mr. Tamilarasu, whose presence added prestige and significance to the occasion. Also in attendance was Dr. Vimala Perumal, the Advisor of ICS MMU Cyberjaya, whose guidance and support played a crucial role in shaping the event’s success. As a key figure in the organizing framework, Dr. Vimala’s involvement underscored the university’s commitment to promoting cultural initiatives and empowering the student body to lead impactful community events.
At the end of a vibrant and inspiring day, SJK(T) Telok Panglima Garang emerged as the overall champion, proudly claiming the Challenge Trophy in recognition of their exceptional performance across multiple competition categories. Their achievement stood as a testament to the dedication, talent, and cultural pride demonstrated by the students and their mentors.
The successful revival of Muthamizh Vizha 2025 not only rekindled a cherished tradition within the MMU community but also set a powerful precedent for future cultural initiatives aimed at youth engagement and heritage preservation. By bridging generations through art, language, and performance, the Indian Cultural Society of MMU Cyberjaya has reaffirmed its role as a beacon of cultural celebration and education.
