Bawah Pokok (BWHPK) Entertainment, founded in 2012 by Mathubalan, began as a humble content creation venture on YouTube. Initially known for their prank videos and lighthearted content, the platform steadily gained popularity and evolved into something much greater. With the addition of Arvind Raj, a well-known artist and co-partner of BWHPK Events, the team expanded their creative horizons. Over time, BWHPK transitioned into producing music videos, short films, and more ambitious projects, carving a unique path in the local entertainment industry. Their journey from grassroots content creators to influential figures in the entertainment scene is a reflection to their passion, creativity, and perseverance.
BWHPK’s Evolution into a Full-Fledged Entertainment Brand
BWHPK Entertainment has grown into a dynamic force within the entertainment industry, offering a wide range of services including music video production, advertising, event management, and film production. Over the years, they have built an impressive portfolio, working on various creative projects that showcase their versatility and commitment to quality content. Some of their notable music videos include Odum Padagu, Naange Lit, Nandu Kathe, Kandangi Remix, and Happy Ending. In addition to music videos, BWHPK has also ventured into long-form storytelling through web series, with titles such as Sila Naazhigai Aval Vanthu Ponathu and the popular series BADEP, further cementing their presence in the digital content space.

Last year, BWHPK reached a significant milestone by organizing their first-ever live concert under the BWHPK banner. What made this achievement even more extraordinary was their bold and heartfelt decision to feature an independent artist for their debut show—Sahi Siva Live in Malaysia. Sahi Siva, a well-known name among independent music circles, has garnered a loyal following for his unique sound and artistic authenticity.
Choosing to feature an independent artist for their first concert was a deliberate and meaningful move by BWHPK. In a market like Malaysia, where international playback singers and film industry musicians often dominate the concert scene due to their large fanbases, BWHPK chose to go against the grain. Their decision wasn’t driven solely by commercial success but rather by a desire to stay true to their values—supporting raw talent, championing independent artistry, and creating events that resonate with their passion for music and creativity. This bold step not only highlighted their commitment to nurturing homegrown and independent talents but also marked BWHPK as a forward-thinking and purpose-driven brand in the Malaysian entertainment landscape.
Behind the Curtain: The Challenges of Bringing an Independent Concert to Life
Organizing their debut concert was no easy feat for the BWHPK team. The journey was filled with challenges, but it was the unwavering determination of a close-knit group of friends—Mathubalan, Arvind Raj, Tanesh, Joshua, Prem and Sid from Music Kitchen, Amos Paul, Saii Naarayan, Devesh Kumar, Ruban Raaj and many others—that made it possible. Bound by a shared dream, they stood together through the difficulties and brought their vision to life.
When asked about the challenges they faced, co-partner Arvind Raj shared, “Since we were new to hosting a concert, it took time for us to understand the proper procedures and the paperwork involved. We had to learn everything from scratch and ensure all the required steps were completed correctly. On top of that, the financial aspect was incredibly tough. When funds were low, we were prepared to use our own life savings. We didn’t think about the consequences—we just wanted to make it happen.”
He continued, “It was also extremely difficult to secure sponsorships. At the time, there was a surge of Kollywood concerts happening in Malaysia, which made it risky to promote a show featuring an independent artist. Convincing potential sponsors—who were used to investing in concerts with big-name stars—to support our independent music event was a huge challenge.”
Despite the odds, the team found support in brands that believed in their mission. “We were fortunate to have sponsors like Hyperspace, Bagheera, Rockstar, Haiku, and many more who came forward to support us,” Arvind said.
Mathubalan added, “Despite all the challenges, we felt deeply fulfilled by the outcome of the concert. The response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive. Many attendees came up to us afterward to express their appreciation and gratitude for organizing such a unique and meaningful event. Seeing the joy on their faces made everything worth it. That moment of connection and recognition gave us immense satisfaction and reinforced our purpose.”
He continued, “This experience became a stepping stone for us—it inspired us to push the independent music scene into a bigger conversation. We’re now more motivated than ever and fully prepared to continue supporting and elevating independent artists. This is just the beginning.”
BWHPK’s Tribute to the Tamil Independent Music Scene
Despite all the challenges, the team successfully delivered a power-packed and memorable concert. The event was further elevated by the presence of renowned rapper and musician Ratty Adiththan, who joined as a special guest and delivered an electrifying performance that lit up the stage. Talented artists Amos Paul and Murty also performed, adding to the dynamic lineup and energy of the night. The concert was not only well-organized but also executed with excellence, marking it as a truly successful milestone for the BWHPK team.
When asked why they chose to feature an independent artist for their debut concert instead of a well-known star, Arvind Raj explained, “I am an independent artist myself, so this was our way of paying homage to the independent music scene. Malaysia is often called the ‘Tamil HipHop Thalainagaram’ because Tamil rap and hip-hop originated here. Homegrown musicians like Yogi B, Darkkey, and many others pioneered this movement. We wanted to host an independent concert that would bring something fresh and meaningful to the scene.”

He continued, “Sahi Siva was the first artist who came to mind. He is not only a talented musician but also a good friend. Ratty Adhiththan, who is also a well-known artist, joined us to support the event. That’s how we started.”
Arvind added, “The concert became a valuable bridge, and since then, we have been in discussions about collaborating on projects with independent artists from other countries. The independent music scene is relatively small and scattered, but I believe if we come together, collaborate, and work collectively, we can achieve greater reach and impact.”
Their dedication and mindset to preserve our identity and pay tribute to our very own independent music scene speak volumes.
