The Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe (LCU) is leveling up with its latest action-packed addition, Benz. Helmed by Remo director Bakkiyaraj Kannan and co-produced by Lokesh Kangaraj himself, the film promises to bring new energy, an intense face-off and a major twist, Malayalam star Nivin Pauly stepping in as the main antagonist.
The LCU Grows Stronger
After Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo, the LCU has earned a reputation for delivering gritty action thrillers that redefine Tamil commercial cinema. Benz marks the fourth installment in this cinematic universe and is also the first LCU film that is not directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, although his creative idea will remain all over the script and production.
Starring Raghava Lawrence in the lead role, Benz is expected to be an adrenaline-filled ride, blending Lokesh’s signature dark undertones with Bakkiraj Kannan’s fast paced direction. Joining them is Vaathi actress Samyuktha, who will be seen as the female lead.
Nivin Pauly’s Explosive Tamil comeback
The buzz grew stronger when the makers teased the introduction of the film’s villain with a cryptic post: “You are ‘N’ot ready for this”. Fans immediately speculated and they were right. Nivin Pauly, loved and admired for his performances in Malayalam hits like Premam and Moothon, is now stepping into Kollywood’s most exciting cinematic franchise, as the antagonist.
In a chilling character promo video released yesterday (4th June), Nivin is introduced as ‘Twin Fish Walter’, a bloodied and intense figure cloaked in red robe adorned with golden fish. In a surreal moment, Walter appears to converse with another version of himself, struggling to remember the name ‘Benz’.
The role appears complex and layered suggesting Nivin Paul will play a double role or a fractured personality, something rarely explored in Indian mainstream villain roles. With this Nivin makes a bold move into the darker shades of cinema and fans are waiting for it.
New Talent in Music
Adding to the film’s freshness, Benz also marks the debut of young musical artist Sai Abhyankkar, the AA22 sensation, as the music director. With his rising popularity and experimental style, expectations for the film’s soundtrack are already sky high.
