The Launch Ceremony of the New Syllabus Book for STPM Tamil Language (Code 912), a significant initiative by the International Association for Tamil Research (IATR) Malaysia, was officially held recently. In conjunction with the event, a total of 700 students preparing for the Tamil paper in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination will receive a complimentary special guidebook to support their exam preparation.
Deputy National Unity Minister YB Senator K. Saraswathy, who officiated the event as the guest of honour, stated that the guidebook—covering the syllabus for all three semesters—was developed by a team of experts, including university professors and Form Six educators.
She further mentioned that the guidebook will be distributed annually at no cost to all students across the country planning to sit for the STPM Tamil subject, with priority given to those who do not have access to a Tamil language teacher. She explained that a similar guidebook was previously published by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2018 to support students in need.

“The release of this new guidebook continues the government’s efforts to expand reference materials for the Tamil subject and to help overcome the shortage of Tamil language teachers,” she told reporters after launching the ‘Buku Panduan STPM Bahasa Tamil’ yesterday.
The guidebook, which is not yet commercially available, was published as part of an initiative by the International Association for Tamil Research (IATR). YB Senator Saraswathy also urged schools to make use of the guidebook to support students in preparing for the upcoming STPM examination.
YB Senator Saraswathy expressed her confidence that the guidebook would become a valuable resource for students and help mitigate the shortage of Tamil language teachers. She also personally handed out copies of the book to 100 students during the event.

The launch of the new STPM Tamil Language syllabus guidebook marks a meaningful step forward in supporting Tamil language education at the pre-university level. Through the combined efforts of IATR and the Ministry, this initiative not only addresses the lack of teaching resources but also ensures that students—especially those without access to qualified Tamil teachers—are better equipped for academic success. With continued distribution in the coming years, the guidebook is set to become a vital tool in strengthening the quality and accessibility of Tamil language education nationwide.
