Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah, continued their strong form at the Japan Open 2025, securing a straight-sets win to advance into the quarter-finals of the prestigious BWF World Tour Super 750 event.
The world No.3 duo dispatched Taiwan’s Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En Tzu 21-14,21-16 in just 35 minutes at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Thursday. The victory marks another confident step forward in Pearly-Thinaah’s hunt for their second title of the season, having already claimed the Thailand Open crown in May
Their quarter-final test will come against South Korea’s Jeong Na Eun and Lee Yeon Woo, the same pair they overcame in the final to win the Thailand Open. However, Pearly-Thinaah are preparing for a tougher challenge this time around as the Korean world No.68 pair have been in red-hot form in Tokyo. Jeong and Lee stunned Japan’s world No.8 Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto in the opening round, followed by a dominant victory over Taiwan’s Chang Ching Hui-Yang Ching Tung.

Pearly-Thinaah’s progression came off a highly successful day for the Malaysian contingent with six men’s and mixed doubles pair also advancing to the quarter-finals. In men’s doubles, Malaysia will be represented by four pairs, world No.1 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, world No.7 Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Win, world No.26 Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, and world No.30 Yong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi.
In the mixed doubles category, world No.4 Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and world No.7 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie are also set to feature in Friday’s last-eight battles.
With momentum on their side and confidence growing, all eyes will be on Pearly-Thinaah as they attempt to outplay their surging Korean rivals and move one step closer to lifting another title this season.
