Dr. Panbarasi’s Sangeetha Kalalayam Music Academy from Perak achieved a remarkable milestone last weekend. On July 19, the academy earned a place in the Malaysia Book of Records for organizing the longest non-stop Thiruppugazh hymn procession, marking a proud moment for both the institution and the Indian classical music community in Malaysia.
The record-breaking event was held at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves, with the support of the Maha Mariamman Devasthanam, Kuala Lumpur. Organised by Dr. Panbarasi and Kanimozhi, the event carried the meaningful theme “Paadi Paadi Unthan Paatham Paninthom Muruga”, reflecting deep devotion through continuous hymn singing.

In a truly divine and awe-inspiring feat, 22 trained singers—disciples of Dr. Panbarasi and Kanimozhi—embarked on a six-hour spiritual journey unlike any other. As they ascended the 272 steps leading to the cave temple at Batu Caves, the singers performed 272 Thiruppugazh hymns, one for each step. The event lasted six continuous hours, with each hymn resonating through the sacred grounds, creating an atmosphere of deep devotion and serenity. From the base of the staircase to the summit of the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple, it was a soulful and disciplined procession, showcasing unwavering faith, vocal endurance, and heartfelt reverence for Lord Murugan.

Additionally, a special book was launched during the ceremony by Datuk Sivakumar Nadaraja, Trustee of the Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam, Kuala Lumpur, further marking the significance of the event.
