In response to surging demand from both leisure and business travelers, Malaysia Airlines is ramping up its services between Kuala Lumpur and Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala’s capital city in South India. Beginning 12th September 2025, the national carrier will operate five weekly flights on this increasingly popular route, with plans to further increase it to daily flights starting 1st December 2025.

This expansion marks a significant step in Malaysia Airlines ongoing commitment to the Indian market. Since launching the Kuala Lumpur-Trivandrum route in November 2023 with just two flights a week, the airline has responded rapidly to market demand, doubling to four weekly flights in April 2024, and now adding a fifth within the year.

Strengthening Ties Between Two Vibrant Regions

According to Malaysia Aviation Group’s Chief Commercial Officer Dersenish Aresandiran, India continues to be a key market for the airline. The consistent rise in travel demand particularly from South India has driven the airline’s strategic decision to increase flight frequency and connectivity.

“India remains a key focus market for Malaysia Airlines, and this frequency increase reaffirms our dedication to meeting the growing demand for air travel from South India. With the introduction of daily flights to Trivandrum from December, we are well-positioned to provide both leisure and business travelers with greater flexibility and convenience, while supporting trade and tourism flows between our two countries. Beyond connectivity, we are proud to deliver our signature Malaysian Hospitality throughout the entire journey – ensuring a warm, reliable, and memorable end-to-end travel experience that reflects the values of our brand.”

Currently, Malaysia Airlines operates 77 weekly flights to 10 major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Trivandrum. With the addition of the fifth Trivandrum service, this number will increase to 80 weekly flights by December 2025, reinforcing the airline’s position as a key player in the India-Malaysia aviation corridor.

Why Trivandrum?

Trivandrum, nestled on the southwestern coast of India, is more than a state capital, it is a getaway to Kerala’s famed backwaters, hill stations, and coastal retreats, making it a prime destination for both tourist and business travelers. The city’s blend of cultural richness, scenic beauty, and educational and tech hubs adds to its growing popularity.

The enhanced connectivity will be a boon for Malaysian and Southeast Asian travelers, offering more convenient access to Kerala’s lush landscapes and Ayurvedic wellness retreats. Conversely, Indian travelers will benefit from improved links to Malaysia and beyond, as Kuala Lumpur serves as a strategic hub for Malaysia Airlines extensive regional and international network.

A Move to Meet Market Demand

The expansion comes at a time when air travel across Asia is recovering, and South India is emerging as a particularly high-growth region. Malaysia Airlines is not just increasing its flight count, but also investing in quality and passenger experience, ensuring that travelers can enjoy reliable and flexible travel backed by hospitality and comfort.

Whether for business meetings in Kuala Lumpur or a family holiday in the hills of Kerala, the increased frequency is expected to enhance travel planning and reduce transit times. Business travelers will gain more flexibility for short trips, while leisure passengers can plan getaway with ease.

A Vision Aligned with Growth

This strategic growth also aligns with Malaysia Airlines broader recovery and expansion strategy. The airline is focusing on markets with strong potential and India is certainly one of them. As one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world, India’s connectivity needs are expanding, and Malaysia Airlines is positioning itself to meet them head-on.
