As Lokesh Kanagaraj prepares for the release of Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie, the director visited PSG College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore on Monday to promote the movie. Returning to his alma mater, Lokesh spoke to students about Coolie, the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), and his future collaborations.
After speaking to the students about Coolie, a question-and-answer session followed. When asked about a possible collaboration with Suriya — who made a cameo appearance as Rolex in Vikram — Lokesh said, “It has always been my dream to work with Suriya sir. Back when I was a college student between 2003 and 2006, sitting where you are now, I would watch his films in theatres one after another — Aayutha Ezhuthu, Pithamagan, Mayavi, and Kaakha Kaakha all released in close succession. Now, standing here as a filmmaker, I still want to work with him. But it will ultimately depend on his availability and several other factors.”

Another student asked Lokesh about actor-turned-politician Vijay’s potential involvement in the LCU. He responded, “Without a doubt, the LCU would feel incomplete without Vijay. However, the decision to return to the LCU is entirely his, and only he can say whether he will come back to cinema. At present, his focus and commitment are fully directed towards politics. So, it wouldn’t be right for me to speak on his behalf. That said, the LCU will never feel truly complete without him.”
Lokesh concluded by emphasising that Vijay’s involvement in the LCU ultimately depends on Vijay himself, as only he can decide whether to return to cinema despite his current political commitments.
In addition to Rajinikanth, Coolie features a stellar cast including Upendra, Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir. The film also includes a special cameo appearance by Aamir Khan, with Reba Monica John and Junior MGR playing key roles. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, the movie is scheduled for release in theatres on August 14.
