Golden Screen Cinema’s (GSC), Malaysia’s largest cinema operator with over six hundred screens nationwide have not confirmed that they will be screening Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated blockbuster Coolie this week. GSC cinemas was glaringly missing from the Malaysia Theater List released by Malik Streams Corporation, the local distributor for the title yesterday. GSC, at time of writing has yet to address this issue or provide an official answer.
Eagle eyed fans who have been eagerly anticipating the movie release have also noted that Coolie posters, which was originally published as a coming soon movie by GSC on their social media channels have been removed. The lack of an official notice from GSC seems to be causing a lot of confusion. With early pre-sale tickets being snapped up fast across the other halls, those waiting to get their tickets at GSC are expecting an official answer from GSC.
Fans meanwhile have already started to look at alternative locations to catch the show. Social media channel Verra Kathaigal (Different Stories) have came up with an alternative location listing on their X (twitter) channel.
Coolie, produced by Sun Pictures and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is anticipated to be one of the biggest blockbusters of this year. The film was officially announced in September 2023 under the tentative title Thalaivar 171 as Rajinikanth’s 171st film as a lead actor and the official title was announced in April 2024. The soundtrack is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, in his fourth collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj.

We have reached out to GSC with regards to this issue and will update this article once we receive an official statement.
