Vijay Ganesh is a multitalented individual who has carved a niche for himself as a director, actor, and lyricist, seamlessly managing each role with remarkable skill and dedication. Hailing from a middle-class family with no background in the film industry, he pursued engineering and initially worked in an engineering firm as well as several other companies. However, his true passion led him to take a different path—he quit his corporate career, turned to tutoring school students, and simultaneously explored his creativity as a content creator.

How Passion Paved the Path to Filmmaking

Together with his friends, Vijay Ganesh from Sage Heroes began their journey on YouTube. With their engaging and innovative content, they quickly built a following and earned the appreciation of audiences.

Vijay Ganesh’s passion for filmmaking began in his school days. Over the years, this interest naturally grew into a pursuit of creating stories, exploring characters, and learning how to convey narratives through the visual medium.

“Despite having an engineering background, it was always cinema that gave me the drive to create something of my own. At one point, I decided to take cinema seriously and pursue it wholeheartedly. I quit my job, turned to freelance tutoring, and began looking for funds to initiate my debut film,” he shared.

It was this passion for cinema that led Vijay and his friends into YouTube content creation. That platform became their learning ground, offering them valuable exposure to the nuances of filmmaking. As their subscriber base gradually grew, so did their experience and confidence—ultimately preparing them to take the step into films, which had always been their primary goal.

From Script to Screen: A Dream Realized with Fivestar Trading

Apart from directing, Vijay Ganesh was introduced to acting through the works of others, which sparked his curiosity to explore diverse human personalities, behaviors, and extremes. This, in turn, inspired him to write compelling characters and stories that he felt deserved to be told, shared, and celebrated with people. To bring these stories to life, he dedicated himself to learning the craft of directing and mastering the art of visual storytelling.

Vijay Ganesh equipped himself with the necessary knowledge to ensure he did things the right way. He went on to craft his first script, and after years of relentless effort, hard work, struggles, and challenges, his dream finally reached the big screen. His debut theatrical film, Mirugasirisham: The Orion, was released on 19th June this year. The movie was produced by Fivestar Trading, marking a significant milestone—not only for Vijay but also for the Malaysian Tamil film industry. For the first time, a well-established distributor took the bold step of producing a Malaysian Tamil film, providing a much-needed platform to showcase and support deserving local talents.

Produced by Fivestar Trading in association with DSG Creation and Evora Entertainment, Mirugasirisham: The Orion ventures into the genre of horror-comedy, skillfully weaving suspense, supernatural elements, and humor into a captivating cinematic experience. At its heart, the film tells the story of a young married couple and the husband’s younger brother, whose lives take a terrifying turn when they begin encountering a series of paranormal events—ranging from eerie and unsettling to dangerously life-threatening.

In their desperate search for answers, they turn to an exorcist, setting the stage for a gripping journey filled with suspense, emotional intensity, and supernatural confrontations. The narrative unfolds with unexpected twists, chilling encounters, and moments of heartfelt revelation, keeping the audience engrossed from beginning to end.

Turning Doubts into Success

Directed by Vijay Ganesh, who also takes on the lead role, the film features a talented cast including Joshua Shashi Kumar, Jegan Shanmugam, Nirmala Tharmarajan, Kumari, Komalaa Naaidu and others. The movie has received highly positive reviews from audiences, with praise directed at every aspect—from its compelling storyline and powerful performances to the captivating music and background score by Shane Xtreme, as well as the striking cinematography. All these elements came together seamlessly, making Mirugasirisham: The Orion a cinematic masterpiece.

When asked about the challenges he faced in bringing Mirugasirisham to the big screen, Vijay Ganesh shared,

“Being a digital content creator with no strong portfolio, it was extremely difficult to secure financing for an idea that almost every potential investor deemed unviable. On top of that, there were constant trust issues—either with the concept itself or with me, and whether I was capable of pulling it off. But somehow, Mr. Sai Suthan from Fivestar Trading believed in the vision. He shared a similar passion for cinema, and that trust drove him to invest in the project. Fivestar Trading’s support was truly instrumental in helping us complete the film.”

Breaking Conventions with Newcomers

Despite Mirugasirisham being his debut film, Vijay Ganesh made the bold decision to cast mostly newcomers and emerging talents in the lead roles. While including established stars might have attracted a larger audience, he chose not to follow that route.

When asked why he preferred new faces over popular actors to add star value, he explained:

“I wanted to give the movie a fresh and authentic look. With new faces, the audience sees them purely as the characters, and the surprises work better because viewers have no preconceived notions about the actors or their previous roles. Moreover, our audience has always been supportive of good content and new talent.”

Vijay Ganesh’s decision proved successful. Mirugasirisham became a strong platform for newcomers to showcase their talent, and every performance stood out. The cast pushed their boundaries, delivering commendable performances that resonated with the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed the film.

“Everyone in the team committed themselves far beyond their expertise and limits. Harikrishnan took charge of cinematography, editing, and some of the visual effects, as well as all the promotional materials. Pannir Kumar handled publicity designs, additional visual effects, and animation for the movie, along with the promotional work. Shashi and Jegan were more than just actors—they were also part of the direction team from the pre-production stage. There is a huge sacrifice behind everyone’s effort in bringing this film to life.”

Harikrishnan’s Vision Behind the Lens

The film’s cinematography received wide praise from audiences, many of whom were impressed by its visual quality and execution. Harikrishnan, the director of photography, brought clarity and strong technical vision to the storytelling.

Speaking about his contribution, Vijay Ganesh shared:

“We had many discussions about the ideas, the overall look and feel, and the execution. We explored cost-effective and alternative methods compared to conventional approaches, in order to save both time and budget. Some of these choices were risky for a DOP—for example, the tracking shots during the estate bike chase. Yet, we decided to take those creative risks to make the movie look as great as possible.”

Through these collective efforts, Vijay Ganesh crafted Mirugasirisham into one of the finest creations in Malaysian Tamil cinema. Despite being his debut film, it excelled in every aspect, showcasing his versatility and talent as he transitioned from a content creator to a filmmaker. Adding to his multifaceted contribution, Vijay Ganesh also penned the lyrics for the film’s songs.

For those who missed watching Mirugasirisham in cinemas, the movie is now available on Astro First. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the film from the comfort of your home theatre.

Mirugasirisham: The Orion is more than just a debut film—it stands as a powerful reflection of passion, perseverance, and the power of collaboration. Vijay Ganesh’s journey from a middle-class upbringing and an engineering career to becoming a filmmaker has been marked by resilience, creativity, and an unyielding belief in his vision. By choosing to spotlight new talents, taking bold creative risks, and contributing across multiple fronts as director, actor, and lyricist, he has set a new benchmark for Malaysian Tamil cinema.

With Mirugasirisham, Vijay Ganesh has not only introduced himself as a promising filmmaker but also opened doors for future storytellers and artists. His success proves that with determination, innovation, and the right support, even the most ambitious dreams can find their place on the big screen.
