Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah underlined their title credentials at the Badminton World Championships after cruising into the quarter-finals with a dominant victory yesterday.
The world No.2 duo delivered a confident performance to dispatch Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Ramadhanti 21-12, 21-11, in just 35 minutes at the Adidas Arena. The result extended their head-to-head advantage over the Indonesians to three wins in four meetings this year.

The win marks Pearly-Thinaah’s second consecutive quarter-final appearance at the World Championships, having also reached the last eight in Copenhagen in 2023. This time, however, the Malaysians are aiming to go one step further and secure their first-ever medal at the prestigious event.
Their quarter-final opponents will be either Bulgaria’s experienced Stoeva sisters, Stefanie, and Gabriela, or Japan’s former world champions Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto.
Staying Grounded Despite Expectations
Speaking after the match, Thinaah expressed satisfaction with their execution but stressed there is still room for improvement.
“We’re happy with today’s performance. What we discussed and planned to do, we managed to execute quite well. But there’s still room for improvement for both of us. For now, we just want to review things again with each other and our coaches, and then rest and recover for the next match,” she said.

Pearly, meanwhile, highlighted their focus on teamwork over external expectation.
“Actually, we don’t think much about outside expectations. On court, we just focus on ourselves, keep communicating, and always support each other. That’s what’s important, and we hope to keep this going into tomorrow’s match”.
Positive Momentum in Paris
Thinaah also noted that the pair looked sharper compared to their opening match in Paris.

“Yesterday was our first match here in Paris, so today felt a bit better. But overall, it was positive, and we just hope to stay consistent and prepare well again for tomorrow,” she added.
With momentum on their side and confidence growing, Pearly-Thinaah now stand on the cusp of history as they aim to bring home Malaysia’s first ever-World Championships medal in women’s doubles.
