AirAsia has issued a travel advisory to all passengers flying during Malaysia’s 68th National Day week, reminding travellers to plan ahead to ensure a smooth journey amid anticipated peak traffic at airports.
The airline highlighted that there will be a temporary closure of airspace within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area to facilitate rehearsals and the National Day flypast in Putrajaya. The closure will take place from 26th to 28th August (11AM-12PM) and again on 29th-31st August 2025 (8.45AM-9.45AM).
In addition, the long weekend holiday is expected to result in heavier-than-usual traffic at check-in counters, security checks, and immigration, making it essential for guests to arrive early.
Key Travel Guidelines for Passengers
AirAsia strongly encourages all guests to perform self check-in via the AirAsia MOVE app, available as early as 14 days up to one hour before departure. The app also provides the latest flight status updates and allows passengers to upload visa documents for seamless e-Boarding Pass issuance.
Counter check-in will only be available for:
- Guests with reduced mobility
- Pregnant travellers
- Guests travelling with infants under 24 months
- Senior citizens
- Unaccompanied minors

Pregnant guests must fill out a form at the counter before boarding, and those beyond 27 weeks of pregnancy are required to provide a certified doctor’s medical certificate. Guests with reduced mobility are advised to pre-book wheelchair assistance at the time of booking or through the MOVE app at least four hours before departure.
For international travel, passengers must comply with all visa and entry requirements of the countries they are travelling to or transiting.
Recommended Airport Procedures
- Arrive early: At least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights
- Check-in deadlines: One hour before departure at KLIA Terminal 2, and 45 minutes before departure at other Malaysian airports.
Use the e-Boarding Pass: AirAsia MOVE app to board the flight without the hassle of printing a boarding pass. The e-Boarding Pass is accepted at all airports in Malaysia and many other airports around the world where AirAsia operates
- Baggage: Use airport kiosks for baggage tag printing and self bag-drop after self check-in. Cabin baggage allowance is limited to one cabin bag (max 56 x 36 x 23cm) and one personal item with a combined weight not exceeding 7kg.

The airline also reminded guests that e-Boarding Passes are widely accepted across Malaysian airports and many other international airports where AirAsia operates, reducing the need for printed passes.
