The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) extended its Kempen Internet Selamat (KIS) to 107 Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur through a vibrant carnival held last week.
According to MCMC’s Corporate Communications, the carnival served as a strategic outreach effort to broaden coverage and ensure inclusivity in digital safety education across schools. Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching, attended the event, engaging with students and visitors. The initiative was jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and the Malaysian Tamil Headmasters Association.
The carnival aimed to cultivate awareness among students on online self-protection, cyber risks, and the importance of responsible internet use. To bring these lessons to life, the programme featured cultural performances in conjunction with Malaysia Day, as well as a special performance by the KIS Choir, made up of students from participating schools.

Exhibition booths from MCMC’s partners, the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), the Royal Malaysia Police, and the National Population and Family Development Board Selangor, provided further learning opportunities.
A key highlight was the appointment of 214 students as Kapten K-Dat (Safe Internet Campaign Icon Captains). These student ambassadors will advocate cybersecurity awareness and safe internet practices within their respective schools.
As of 1st September, MCMC reported that 1928 schools nationwide have participated in KIS module, including 144 schools in Selangor and 76 in Kuala Lumpur. The campaign continues to underline Malaysia’s commitment to digital inclusivity and the cultivation of safer online environments for young learners.
