A total of 72 schools across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will conduct online classes during the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled to take place from 26th October to 28th October, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
Education Minister YB Fadhlina Sidek confirmed that while schools will remain open administratively, in-person learning will temporarily shift online to minimise disruption and ease congestion in areas expected to experience heavy traffic and tightened security measures.
“There’s no such thing as school closures. But classes would go online. It involves 72 schools so far,” she said after a townhall session with students, held as part of the government’s efforts to draft the Anti-Bully law in Putrajaya.

The online learning arrangement is similar to the one implemented in May, when 71 schools adopted home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) during the 46th ASEAN Summit, which was also held at KLCC.
The 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits are expected to bring together key regional and international leaders, including United States President, Donald Trump. The Education Ministry said the temporary measure ensures that teaching and learning continue without interruption while allowing for smooth coordination of security and logistic throughout the event.
Authorities are expected to provide further details to the affected schools in the upcoming weeks.
