In conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali festival, price controls will be implemented nationwide on nine essential items, said Minister of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Minister Armizan Mohd Ali.
The price control scheme will be enforced from October 16 to 22 and will cover the following items:
- Imported mutton
- Tomatoes
- Red Chillies
- Small red onions
- large imported shallots
- Australian dhal (lentils)
- Coconuts

“These measures are meant to protect consumers from unreasonable price hikes and to ensure sufficient supply throughout the Deepavali period,” Armizan. He added that all items under the scheme will be marked with pink price tags, making them easily identifiable for shoppers. The list of items and their respective maximum prices will also be available on the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s (KPDN) official website.
The minister added that this initiative aims to ensure that the public can obtain essential goods at reasonable prices during the Deepavali festive period.

Initiatives such as the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme, which uses MyKad to deliver aid directly to eligible Malaysians, reflect the government’s commitment to targeted assistance and transparent subsidy management.
Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, will be celebrated on October 20 by Hindus across Malaysia.
