A total of 3,000 Indian students pursuing higher studies in higher education institutions in Malaysia will receive new laptops under the Peranti Mahasiswa program, facilitated by the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA).
Previously, MITRA distributed refurbished laptops to 520 Tamil schools, which received mixed reactions. However, this time all 3,000 laptops provided to students will be brand new.
With an allocation of RM7.55 million, this initiative is a collaboration between the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), Yayasan Perkasa Siswa, and Yayasan Didik Negara. It will benefit first-year students who are newly enrolled in higher education institutions.

Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri R. Ramanan stated that eligible students from the B40 and M40 categories have been identified by the Education Ministry. The list of recipients will be published on MITRA’s official website to ensure transparency. He also mentioned that the laptops will be distributed to students by the end of the year.
Additionally, R. Ramanan announced several initiatives for the Indian community ahead of the upcoming Deepavali celebrations. Among these is the “Kalvi Madani” tuition program, which will be implemented in 200 selected Tamil schools.
