The Melaka state government has allocated RM200,000 to support over 1,000 Indian families across all parliamentary constituencies in conjunction with this year’s Deepavali celebrations.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the initiative represents a gesture of unity and respect for the Indian community, especially for those in the B40 income group, ensuring they too can celebrate the Festival of Lights with joy and dignity.
“I hope that the contributions we have made will, to some extent, ease the burden for families of more limited means as they make their Deepavali preparations, and provide them with a ray of happiness,” Ab Rauf said during the state-level Deepavali Festival 2025.
The Chief Minister’s Office also distributed over 400 food kits to various Indian community welfare associations statewide, providing essential supplies to those in need during the festive season.
Earlier, on 10th October around 100 students from 21 Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) schools were presented with new clothing. Additionally, 30 children from B40 families received festive attire this week to help them celebrate a more joyous Deepavali.

The state-level Deepavali Festival 2025 celebration, officiated by Ab Rauf, was attended by Melaka MIC chairman and state executive councillor for Youth, Sports, and Non-Governmental Bodies, Datuk V.P. Shanmugan among other dignitaries.
The event drew an estimated 2,000 visitors from diverse communities, reflecting Melaka’s multicultural spirit. Guests enjoyed a lively evening filled with traditional Indian dishes such as Thosai, Vadai, and Puthu Mayam, along with captivating performances of Indian art and culture.
As Deepavali approaches on Monday, 20th October, the state’s contribution stands as a symbol of togetherness and solidarity, lighting not just homes but hearts across Melaka.
