Genivan Genkeswaran Crowned Champion at 19th Asian Schools Chess Championships 2025

Malaysia’s young chess ace, Genivan Genkeswaran, has achieved a remarkable milestone by being crowned champion in the U17 Boys category at the 19th Asian Schools Chess Championships 2025, held in Mongolia.

Demonstrating exceptional skill and strategic brilliance, Genivan’s victory not only brought pride to the nation but also earned him a prestigious title upgrade from Candidate Master (CM) to FIDE Master (FM),  a significant accomplishment in the international chess arena.

Upon his triumphant return from Mongolia, FM Genivan Genkeswaran was warmly welcomed at KLIA by his proud family and friends, celebrating his hard-earned success.

Genivan first made headlines in 2023, following his stunning performance at the 7th Johor International Chess Open 2022, where he defeated a grandmaster, solidifying his position as one of Malaysia’s brightest young talents.

Coming from a family with a strong tradition of sporting excellence, Genivan is continuing the legacy established by his father, Genkeswaran Muniyan. His father is a SEA Games bronze medalist and currently works as a chess instructor at Chess Master Journey. Genivan demonstrates his dedication and passion for the game as he carries this legacy forward.

Since beginning his chess journey, Genivan has made Malaysia proud with his achievements in the sport. His journey exemplifies perseverance and excellence, and the nation eagerly looks forward to witnessing more victories from this rising chess star.
