The Kedah state government has allocated RM100,000 to support 18 Tamil schools in the region, as announced by Wong Chia Zhen, a member of the Kedah assembly. This announcement was made during the Deepavali celebration held at Dewan SP Swarnabumi in Sungai Petani.

The allocation is intended to support student activities and enhance school facilities. Wong Chia Zhen emphasized that the state government treats all ethnic communities equally, respecting each culture and tradition. He highlighted the importance of community festivals, using the Deepavali open house as an example. He also mentioned that everyone in the state is free to live by their cultural traditions without interference.

The celebration brought together leaders from the Indian community, representatives from Tamil schools, social organizations, and local community members, fostering unity and harmony among the diverse communities within the state.

The event were attended by Wong Chia Zhen, Chairman of the Committee on Human Resources, and representative for Chinese, Indian, and Siamese communities and NGOs along with Ustaz Azizan Hamzah, the Bukit Selambau Assemblyman and Muhammad Amri Wahab, the Derga Assemblyman.
