Batik Air has announced the launch of a new direct service connecting Langkawi International Airport (LGK) in Kedah to Tashkent International Airport (TAS) in Uzbekistan, with flights set to begin on 14th December 2025.
The new weekly route marks a major step in expanding Malaysia’s air connectivity to central Asia and comes in response to growing travel demand from the Uzbekistan market. It also complements Batik Air’s existing Kuala Lumpur-Tashkent service, offering greater travel flexibility and more direct options for both leisure and business travellers.
Batik Air Chief Executive Officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the airline is thrilled to introduce the new connection, which is expected to boost Langkawi’s visibility as a premier island destinations.
“We’re thrilled to support the growing number of travellers coming to Langkawi. This route gives emerging markets like Uzbekistan a direct link to one of Malaysia’s most iconic island destinations, and we’re proud to play a part in boosting tourism and showcasing all that Langkawi has to offer.”

“It’s also an important step in supporting Visit Malaysia 2026. By connecting Tashkent and Langkawi, we are welcoming more international visitors to northern Malaysia while complementing our Kuala Lumpur–Tashkent two times weekly service. This milestone is all about meaningful connections and sharing Malaysia’s amazing attractions with the world”.
Known for it’s UNESCO Global Geopark status, turquoise waters, and lush landscapes, Langkawi has long been celebrated as the ‘Jewel of Kedah’. The direct link with Tashkent is expected to attract more travellers from Central Asia seeking tropical and cultural experiences while enhancing Langkawi’s role as a northern tourism getaway.
The new route also represents Batik Air’s continued commitment to broadening Malaysia’s tourism reach beyond traditional markets, paving the way for stronger cultural and business ties between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

On the other end of the route, Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s bustling capital, offers a mix of ancient Islamic architecture, rich history, and modern vibrancy, making it an increasingly popular destination for global travellers. By bridging Langkawi and Tashkent, Batik Air’s latest expansion not only promotes cross-border tourism but also aligns with national efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s aviation network in support of Visit Malaysia 2026.
The LGK-TAS service solidifies Langkawi’s position as a key international hub for northern Malaysia, offering travellers direct access to Central Asia without the need to transit through Kuala Lumpur, a milestone moment for Malaysia’s tourism and aviation sectors alike.
