The National Registration Department (JPN) will start issuing new versions of national identity cards, including MyKad, MyTentera, and MyPoCA, from June 2026. This initiative aims to enhance identity verification and reduce forgery.
Deputy Home Minister YB Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar bin Haji Nasarah informed Parliament that the upgraded cards will feature enhanced security measures, including a QR code verification system that allows for digital validation to confirm their authenticity.

According to NRD, the shift is part of broader efforts to stay in step with modern technological standards and to crack down on misuse and fraudulent identity documents. Between 2021 and August 2025, authorities recorded hundreds of arrests involving fake identity cards and misuse of valid cards.
As Malaysia prepares for the rollout of these upgraded identity cards in June 2026, the initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening national security and embracing digital verification standards. While further implementation details are expected in the coming months, the move signals the government’s commitment to protecting citizens from identity fraud and ensuring that the country’s identification system keeps pace with modern technological demands.
