Director Sudha Kongara has spoken openly about actor Suriya’s exit from her film initially titled as Purananooru, putting an end to months of speculation surrounding the project. The film has since been revived under a new titile, Parasakthi with Sivakarthikeyan taking over the lead.
In a recent interview, Sudha Kongara clarified that Suriya’s departure was not due to creative differences or ideological reasons as widely speculated. She stated that the decision was purely based on scheduling constraints.
According to the director, Purananooru required long, uninterrupted shooting schedules due to its scale and setting. However, Suriya’s existing film commitments made it difficult for him to allocate continuous dates for the project. Proceeding with fragmented schedules would have affected the film’s execution leading to the mutual decision to part ways.

Sudha Kongara emphasised that Suriya had shown strong interest in the script and was fully on board creatively. She stated that his exit was handled professionally without any disagreement or conflict between the actor and the film’s team.
Following Suriya’s departure, the project underwent significant restructuring. The films was reworked and renamed Parasakthi with Sivakarthikeyan stepping in as the lead actor. Sudha revealed that Sivakarthikeyan came on board after hearing the script and immediately commited to the project.
The director described the casting changes as a rebirth for the film allowing it to move forward with renewed momentum. Sudha Kongara’s clarification has now addresed the rumours surrounding Parasakthi confirming the casting change was a practical decision rather than a creative fallout.
