A grand celebration has been announced to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the iconic 140-foot Lord Murugan statue at Batu Caves, one of Malaysia’s most recognisable religious landmarks and a symbol of devotion for millions worldwide.
Temple chairman T.R. Narayanan said the celebrations will begin on 1st January at 7AM with a homam (holy fire ritual), followed by special abhishekam ceremonies. Devotees will also witness sacred cloth offerings, special prayers for good health, and a paneer abhishekam, where the deity is bathed in fragrant milk or water as part of traditional worship.
A special devotional session will take place at 4PM, featuring heartfelt musical performance by artists from Malaysia and abroad, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the day. The celebration will culminate with a grand fireworks display later in the night.

Installed in 2006, the towering statue has since gained international acclaim, drawing countless visitors and devotees from around the globe. Beyond being a cultural and religious symbol, it has become one of Malaysia’s most photographed landmarks.
Temple authorities also shared that over the past two years, the statue underwent extensive cleaning and restoration, ensuring it continues to stand in renewed splendour as a proud testament to faith, heritage, and community devotion.
The 20th anniversary celebration promises to be a momentous occasion, honouring two decades of reverence and global admiration for this monumental symbol of Lord Murugan.
