The Dewi Sri Pathra Kaliamman Temple in Kuala Lumpur has been issued a seven-day notice to vacate its current premises, sparking concern among devotees as the directive comes on the eve of the Ponggal festival.
Dewi Sri Pathra Kaliamman Temple, located along Jalan Munshi Abdullah received a notice dated January 13, 2026 from Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd, the landowner of the site, instructing the temple management to vacate the site to make way for planned development works.
According to the notice, failure to comply within the given period could result in legal action and eviction. Jakel has also indicated that it has allocated RM1 million to assist with the relocation process, with the amount to be released through its legal representatives once the temple fully vacates the premises.

Temple management said they are seeking legal advice and stressed that negotiations should continue as the proposed relocation site has yet to be fully prepared. They also pointed out that earlier assurances had been given that the temple would only be required to move after the new site was ready.
The temple which has existed at its current location for several decades, serves a large number of devotees in the area. The timing of the notice issued just days befor Ponggal festival has raised concern among devotees.
Discussions between the temple management, Jakel, and relevant authorities are believed to be ongoing, with calls for a peaceful and negotiated resolution to the matter.
