The historic Sentul Dewi Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple, is undergoing a major redevelopment that will see the entire temple structure rebuilt in granite.
The reconstruction project is part of preparations ahead of the temple’s upcoming Kumbabishegam (consecration ceremony), which is an important religious ritual in Hindu tradition marking the completion and sanctigication of temple construction.
A New Granite Temple for the Community
The existing temple which has served devotees for many years will be replaced with a solid granite structure. Granite is a durable and long lasting stone often used in traditional South Indian temple architecture known for its strength and ability to preserve intricate carvings.
Work on the site has already begun, and the community has welcomed the development as a significant upgrade that honours both spiritual traditions and cultural heritage.
Foundation and Community Support
A foundation stone-laying ceremony has been held to symbolise the start of the rebuilding process. Such ceremonies are deeply meaningful in Hindu temple projects, representing the blessing and divine support for construction work.
Devotees, volunteers and temple committee members are actively involved in planning and preparations, hoping to complete the project ahead of major festival dates and to create a temple space that will serve future generations.
