The Perak government has allocated RM4.75 Million to support students from the state who are pursuing higher education, reaffirming it’s commitment to student welfare and access to learning.
Menteri Besar Saarani Mohammad said the allocation will fund three key initiatives this year, self-care help assistance, student emergency assistance, and book voucher assistance, aimed at easing the financial burden faced by students at various levels of study.
“A total of RM4 Million has been allocated for self-care assistance and student emergency assistance, particularly for students pursuing Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy programmes,” he said at a press conference held at the Menteri Besar’s Office, following the presentation of mock cheques for student aid.
Under the self-help assistance scheme, aid is disbursed according to level of study: RM500 for Diploma students, RM700 for Bachelor’s degree students, RM800 for Master’s students, and RM1,000 for PhD candidates.
For students emergency assistance, Saarani said the aid is meant to help students facing unexpected situations such as accidents, serious health issues, theft or other disasters. Assistance will be granted on a case-by-case basis, with a maximum of RM5,000, subject to approval by the relevant committee.
To further support academic needs, the state has also allocated RM750,000 for book voucher assistance, benefiting 5,000 students, each of whom will receive RM150 to help offset the cost of reference materials and study books.
The initiatives are coordinated by the State Education Executive Councillor’s Office, with implementation handled by Yayasan Perak, Pusat Aspirasi Anak Perak (Pasak), the State Economic Planning Unit, and the State Finance Office.
Meanwhile, State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hinapah outlined the eligibility criteria for applicants. He said students must be Perak-born, or have resided in the state for at least 10 years if they are not natives.
Household income must not exceed RM7,500, and applicants must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 int he previous semester. However, Khairudin noted that different income ceilings apply depending on the type of aid, RM7,500 for book vouchers and RM5,000 and below for self-help assistance, based on data from the Department of Statistic Malaysia.
Applicants must also be full-time students, and those enrolled in distance learning (PJJ) or part-time programme are not eligible.
Application for self-help assistance and book vouchers will be open from 2nd March to 30th April 2026, while application for student emergency assistance will remain open until 31st October 2026. All applications can be submitted online via www.eheyns.com.my
