Indian music icon Arijit Singh has marked a significant transition in his career with the release of Raina, his first independent song following his decision to stop accepting new playback singing projects. Released on 27th February 2026, the romantic ballad signals a shift from film-led music to a more personal, artist-driven creative path.

For over a decade, Arijit Singh’s voice has been central to Hindi cinema’s emotional soundscape. His announcement earlier this year that he would no longer take on new playback projects came as a surprise, given his continued dominance in film music. The singer later clarified that previously recorded songs would still be released in the upcoming months, ensuring his presence in cinema while he steps back from future commitments.

Raina is composed by Shekhar Ravjiani, with lyrics by Priya Saraiya. Announcing the release on Instagram, the collaborators invited listeners to experience the song as an intimate, emotional journey. The track departs from cinematic storytelling, embracing minimal instrumentation and lingering melodies that allow Arijit’s signature vocal depth to take centre stage. Described as a romantic ode to a woman who embodies the mystery and calm of night, the song highlights the creative freedom of independent music.

The response to Raina was immediate and heartfelt. Fans across social media praised the track, many viewing it as both a closing chapter in Arijit’s playback journey and the beginning of a more introspective phase. The release reaffirmed his ability to connect deeply with listeners beyond the framework of films.

Arijit Singh first announced his withdrawal from new playback projects on 27th January, thanking audiences for years of support and describing his career journey as fulfilling. He emphasized that he was not disappearing from music, but choosing to recalibrate his artistic direction.

Despite this shift, his voice will continue to be heard in upcoming films, including “Ek Din”, produced by Aamir Khan, with the title track already released. From an artiste who shaped the sound of modern Bollywood romance, Raina represents not an ending, but a conscious move toward creative independence and musical authorship on his own terms.
