Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced a 50 percent reduction in rental rates for hawker stalls and select markets in the capital, aimed at easing the financial burden on small traders. This rental reduction will take effect from April 1, 2026, and will remain in place until December 31, 2027.
Hannah Yeoh, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), stated that this initiative is part of the government’s effort to support small-scale traders while addressing the rising cost of living faced by communities.

She also noted that traders who wish to benefit from the reduced rental rates must first settle any outstanding rental dues with DBKL. The minimum rental rate after the reduction will be set at RM50 per month.
The initiative is expected to help hawkers and small business owners sustain their operations while continuing to provide affordable food and services to the public. This reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the local small business sector and ensuring that small traders receive the necessary support to operate in a challenging economic environment.
