S.Sivasangari, Malaysia’s top squash player, ended her 13-month title drought by winning the women’s title at the 2026 Australian Open Squash Championships in Brisbane. The match took place at South Bank Piazza.
The national player has delivered a strong and commanding performance, defeating Marina Stefanoni (7th seed) from the United States in straight sets, 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-8). Lasting only 28 minutes, Sivasangari dominated the game throughout the match.
This victory marks Sivasangari’s first title won since February last year, when she had a match and won the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup after defeating Egypt’s Amanda Sobhy in the finals.
Earlier in the tournament, the 27-year-old secured her place in the finals after defeating Belgium’s 4th seed Nele Gilis in the semi-finals. Sivasangari won the match with 11-8, 13-11, 11-4 to advance to the title showdown. This victory shows the achievement and proves her strong return to form after a year. The win also reinforces Malaysia’s presence on the international squash stage.
