Tamil cinema fans can finally see another collaboration between two of Kollywood cinema’s most respected names, as Vijay Sethupathi has confirmed that he is working on a new film directed by veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam.
Speculation about the project had been circulating for few months now, but in a recent interview with The Hindu while promoting his upcoming web series Kaattaan, Vijay Sethupathi had let the rumours rest. When asked about the projects that his currently working on, Vijay Sethupathi shared that he has several exciting films in development, including the yet-to-be-titled project with Mani Ratnam.
“All the films I am currently working on are exciting. Slum Dog (directed by Puri Jagannadh) is a script I loved. I am also excited by Balaji Tharaneedharan’s next film. Then there’s Pocket Novel (directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja), Mani sir’s film, and Farzi 2 (helmed by Raj & DK)”, the actor shared in the interview.
He added that the creative process is what continues to motivate him. “My stories and my directors are why my work blossoms beautifully,” he said.
Reunion After Chekka Chivantha Vaanam
The upcoming film of the duo will mark a reunion between Vijay Sethupathi and Mani Ratnam following their collaboration in Cheeka Chivantha Vaanam, a 2018 gangster drama that featured an ensemble cast and was widely praised for it’s storytelling and performances.
While details about the new project remains under wraps, several reports suggest that Sai Pallavi is being considered to play the female lead, though the casting has not been officially confirmed.
Busy Line Up
Vijay Sethupathi continues to maintain one of the busiest schedules in Tamil cinema. He was last seen in Gandhi Talks, a unique silent film project that generated attention for it’s unconventional format. Looking ahead, he is also set to appear in Jailer 2 with Superstar Rajinikanth, Train with Mysskin. And another anticipated project is Arasan, with Vetri Maaran and STR. Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam’s most recent directorial project was Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, STR, and Trisha Krishnan.
Although plot details and production timelines for the new project is not revealed, the confirmed collab between both of them is already generating a excitement among fans.
