SJKT Nibong Tebal Penang, nine Level 11 students (Year 4.5, and 6) had a proud moment as they represented their school at the State Level JBS individual Chess Tournament, which took place on 17th March 2026, at SMK Jit Sin II, Seberang Perai South. The tournament was organised by the Department of Youth & Sports, which gathered young chess players across the state.
Each and one of their participation was more than just a presence, it was a opportunity to challenge themselves against other talented players, plan their techniques, and gain a valuable experience beyond classrooms. It also reflects the students confidence and capability in the game, marking important step in their co-curricular journey.

The tournament also came with a notable achievement by a student from Year 5 Vetri, Gogulan Moganan, who secured 3rd place in the Under-12 Boys category. Securing 3rd place, at a state level tournament is a huge accomplishment. Not just by showcasing dedication and discipline at such young age, but the ability to compete among the best young players in the state. Gogulan’s success stands as a proud moment for the school and a inspiring example to all the young students around.
Beyond recognition, the experience continues to play a meaningful role in building students interest in chess. Participation in tournaments like this encourages patience, critical thinking, and skills that goes beyond the boards. It shows the importance of providing young students, a space to explore their talent, and strive for excellence.

As the school celebrates the achievement, it is hoped by the community and schools, that more students will be inspired to take up chess and pursue further. With continued support, and opportunities, young players such as them have a potential to reach greater heights in the future. Congratulations to all the participants for representing the school with pride and determination.
