Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Perai State Legislative Assemblyman Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo Somu has reaffirmed his commitment to community welfare through a hands-on grassroots initiative to support vulnerable groups and addressing the challenges faced by residents.
In a statement recently, Dato Sundarajoo emphasised that welfare of people is a responsibility that must be done with sincerity and action, not just promises. Guided with this principle, he introduced the “Our Perai Welfare Visit” programme, a initiative carried out weekly alongside Team Perai to reach out to the ones whose in need.
The programme focuses on assisting the underprivileged individual, the elderly, bedridden patients, and others who requires urgent attention. While centred in Perai, the initiative extends beyond the constituency when necessary, ensuring that aid reaches to those who genuinely needs support.
Dato Sundarajoo, also highlighted a recent case where Mr.Nathan, chairman of a volunteer organisation assisting on accident victims alerted him about a woman in her 40s who sustained a serious thigh injury from a fall. The single mother, who also cares for her own mother and daughter, faced financial difficulties in covering the daily wound treatment and ambulance cost, estimated RM200 per trip to the hospital.
Responding to this, Dato Sundarajoo arranged a visit to assess the situation personally. Following discussions with the family, he has facilitated free ambulance service through the volunteer organisation and provided financial assistance to ease their burden. Since then, the patient has shown improvement after receiving consistent treatment.
He also expressed appreciation for the role played by volunteer groups, noting that collaboration between elected representatives, community organisations, and the public is important in ensuring no one is left behind.
