At the National Indoor Athletics a strong performance was delivered by Baranica Elangovan, a International pole vaulter, from Tamil Nadu. This got her name into the record books with a new national mark in the women’s pole vault.
The 29-year-old athlete jumped 4.22 metres, beating previous national record in 2022. Her achievement does not just earned her top honours but makes her the highlight on the opening day of the competition.
After her record-breaking jump, she described the moment as a long-awaited breakthrough. She shared that crossing the 4.20m mark is a personal target for some time.
“It’s a good day for me to enter my name in the record books. I’ve been trying hard to cross 4.20m in the past, but today turned out to be a lucky day,” she said.
Following the success, Baranica tried to push the bar even higher to 4.25 metres. Although she was unable to clear that height, her performance at 4.22m was good enough to highlight a significant milestone in Indian athletics.
Her record breaking achievement shows both her persistence and steady progression in the sport, reinforcing her position as one of the country’s leading pole vaulters. Achievements like this also signals a promising future for Indian athletics, especially in field events that continue to gain prominence on international stage.
