In a recent announcement, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, the director-general of the Road Transport Department, has urged Malaysian drivers to ensure their licenses are up to date if they wish to take advantage of the government’s Budi95 initiative. The program, designed to alleviate some of the financial burden from rising petrol prices, offers a subsidy of RM1.99 per liter for RON95 fuel.
However, the director-general has specified that drivers whose licenses have been expired for over 36 months will be ineligible for this benefit. The Budi95 initiative depends upon the current status of a driver’s license, marking a crucial requirement for eligibility. Datuk Aedy emphasized the importance of keeping licenses renewed to retain eligibility for this subsidy.

For those holding licenses that have been expired for more than three years, it’s important to note that the renewal process is not straightforward. Such drivers will be required to undergo a driving competency test at any accredited driving institute before they can renew their licenses. This measure aims to ensure that all drivers on the road possess current knowledge and skills essential for safe driving.
Datuk Aedy’s announcement serves as a reminder of the importance of staying compliant with licensing regulations while benefiting from government initiatives designed to assist the public during challenging economic times. As the Budi95 program continues to offer relief to many, drivers are urged to take action promptly to maintain their eligibility.
