A Journey of Confidence and Breaking Stereotypes
Representing Malaysia on a global platform, especially in the modeling and pageant industry, is no easy feat. Rashmita, who represents Malaysia, has forged her path in this competitive field. Along the way, she has faced numerous challenges that have shaped her into the individual she is today. Previously, Rashmita worked a 9-to-5 job as an instructional designer while also balancing her career as a professional model.
She stated that it takes a lot of discipline to maintain a good physical appearance in the modeling industry. It felt like a true achievement for her when she pushed herself to exercise every day from 8 PM to 10 PM and monitored her food intake, which helped her lose weight.
Despite these challenges, she broke the beauty stigma that many people held against professional models. With her tanned skin, she faced significant backlash from those who believed that a fair-skinned representative would be better suited to represent the country on a global platform. In the face of this hatred and cyberbullying, she remained strong, believing that confidence is not solely about beauty, but rather about embracing who you are.
“Therefore, I was determined to represent my people and to show girls that look like me that anything is possible if you put your mind into it, all we need is to believe in ourselves.”
As a Malaysian Indian woman, she broke stereotypes and myths about tanned skin by representing her nation on a global platform. In a significant and proud moment, she won the crown for Miss Charm 2024.
Femme Force Forward: A Place of Strength, Support and Sisterhood
Femme Force Forward, created by Rashmita, is an organisation dedicated to empowering women in our nation. Rashmita’s inspiration for this organisation came from her own journey and her realisation that education is a key factor in empowering women. She has observed that a lack of knowledge contributes to women’s limited confidence and opportunities.
“To me, education is not just academic, it is the foundation of independence, self-worth, and the courage to dream bigger.”
Thus through this organisation, Rashmita is aimed to create a safe space where women are empowered through knowledge and support. She has a faith to upbring a generation of women who are much more confident, educated and brave enough to rise and shine. She believes that if she could inspire a girl to believe in her dreams, it is a big achievement for her.
Women Empowerment: Breaking the Silence of Hidden Struggles
Rashmita believes that Femme Force Forward needed more exposure and experience in women’s empowerment, and that’s where she discovered the Women Equality Association (WEA), which has been active in our nation for many years. Collaborating with WEA has been a great opportunity for Rashmita to gain a deeper understanding of what women and children are experiencing in our country, especially those who are silently enduring domestic violence.
Through her interactions, she has heard many stories that made her realise that women trapped in these situations are not there by choice, but rather due to fear and a lack of support. That’s where her ideology became strong. If a woman is educated and brave enough to participate in society, she will not fear standing up for herself. As a result, she will not have to endure pain and will be empowered to take the right measures to protect herself and her children.
“I believe in using my voice to raise awareness, break the stigma, and advocate for stronger support systems because when you empower one woman, you empower a generation.”
Hopes and Dreams for the Future: Inspiring Change and Growth
Rashmita has a deep vision for women empowerment and plans to expand Femme Force Forward from a local initiative to a global platform. She aims to implement structured programs within the organisation that focus on providing education, mentorship, and support, particularly for young girls and underprivileged communities around the world.
Rashmita intends to use this global platform to raise awareness about important issues such as the significance of education, gender equality, and women’s safety. Through these efforts, she hopes to empower women to become more confident, knowledgeable, and equipped with opportunities, enabling them to pursue their dreams.
