The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) is currently reviewing a proposal to introduce a maternity leave assistance allowance under the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO). This initiative aims to enhance support for working mothers in Malaysia.
Human Resources Minister Dato Sri R. Ramanan stated that the proposed allowance, which would be implemented through PERKESO’s insurance system, is expected to benefit over 100,000 mothers across the country. He emphasized that women play a crucial role not only as contributors but also as key drivers of the nation’s economic growth.

The announcement was made during the KESUMA Labour Day 2026 program, which was attended by 500 participants. The event also served as a platform to foster collaboration among the government, employers, and workers, while highlighting ongoing efforts to improve workers’ welfare through phased initiatives.
Dato Sri R. Ramanan shared that he had discussions with the Sultan of Terengganu regarding updates on the PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre project in the state. The centre is expected to strengthen Malaysia’s social security system by offering comprehensive rehabilitation services and supporting injured or disabled contributors in their return to work.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of this project, which aims to expand access to quality healthcare and improve social protection for workers in need of rehabilitation and reintegration into the workforce.
