The teaser of Otrai Panai Maram, directed by Puthiyavan Rasaiyah was released on Twitter on Wednesday by director/producer Pa Ranjith. The film tells the story of Sri Lankan war widows who go through several challenges in their daily life.
The teaser of the film begins with a story of displacement. Starring Puthiyavan, Navaayugha and Ajathika Puthiyavan in important roles, the teaser presents a picture of war and the destruction caused by it to the landscapes and the people.
Otrai Panai Maram, meaning ‘a lone palm tree’ has been screened at over 35 film festivals, including the Moondance International Film Festival, gaining international acclaim for itself. According to reports, the film has also bagged a total of 12 awards across film festivals.

The film’s producer Thanigaivel, has said in an interview, “The film begins during the final days of the Sri Lankan war and tells a story which even the real fighters and people who have witnessed the war firsthand fear to talk about. Realistic acting, natural cinematography, and scenes with twists and turns that weigh on your heartstrings will take the viewers to the middle of a village in Killinochi in Eezham where the film is set.”
