The Temple of Fine Arts Malaysia will play host once again to the Shantanand Festival of Arts, from the 30th of November to the 8th of December 2019.
Shantanand Festival of Arts (SFA) is the premier Indian arts event held in the Temple of Fine Arts (TFA) Malaysia. This year, the theme is Interweaving, symbolising the amalgamation of various art forms.
There will be two exciting weekends of performances by local artistes, a feature dance-drama and musical extravaganza. In addition, there are workshops, talks, lecture demonstrations and a special week-long holiday camp for children. All together, there will be over 34 events for attendees to indulge in!
The feature performances this year will include the TFA Orchestra presenting Hrdaya – Heartstrings, with unique and fresh compositions by Kalpana Paranjothy and a powerful musical team.
Also headlining this year is an engaging collaborative dance work, Padma Purush, weaving the two Indian dance styles of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, presented through the joint choreography of Pandit Ratikant Mohapatra of India and Shri Shankar Kandasamy, Malaysia’s own homegrown talent.
The Malaysian Dance Showcase Series will feature Imran Syafiq and Akshobhya Bahradwaj in a Zapin-Kathak collaboration along with Kimberly Yap, Failul Adam and Swathi Sivadas.
The Malaysian Music Showcase this year includes Margazhi Musings, a presentation of popular Indian film songs based on particular ragas, and Four Malaysia – an ensemble featuring the Malay gambus, the Chinese guzheng, the Sarawakian sape and the Indian violin, all by highly talented and popular Malaysian artistes.
For the first time, the festival will feature a colloquium titled Tilting the Balance: Temple of Fine Arts, Extent and the Future – Reflections and Ruptures of Indic Performing Arts in Malaysia by the eminent Professor Dr Mohd Anis Md Nor as well as the screening of the Malaysian-made, award-winning movie Jagat which will be followed by a question and answer session with the director.
