Actress Andrea Jeremiah was invited to speak at the Jeppiar College, Chennai, in conjunction of the International Women’s Day 2018.
When she was asked about the struggles of she faced in the film industry, Andrea did not hold back. She made it clear that the Indian film industry is a male-dominated industry, and women are merely there to wear revealing clothes and jiggle their butt.
“If I ask anybody to name the superstars of Indian cinema, they would naturally come up with names like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. They would not name a woman actor.” she said.
“But in order for a Deepika Padukone to be a Deepika Padukone she had to act with Shah Rukh Khan. Nayanthara has to act with Rajinikanth to become a Nayanthara. Why can’t Andrea just do good films and becomes an Andrea? Why must the worth of an actress be determined by her co-stars?”
“I can look hot and sexy and I can act also. So, write roles for me and don’t ask me to come on screen and jiggle my butt and wear revealing clothes and be happy with that”, Andrea said.
Andrea also added that she hasn’t signed a single film since her critically acclaimed Taramani, because she doesn’t want to be just another arm-candy on screen.
