It’s always exciting to see our local films getting international recognition.

Sughamaai Subbulakshmi, a local Tamil film directed by Karthik Shamalan, is making waves in the international arena even before hitting the theatres. The film has already bagged two awards the 9th Norway Tamil Film Festival.

Film director Karthik Shamalan won the ‘Best Director Tamil – Diaspora’ award for his brainchild. Apart from that, actress Punitha Shanmugam picked up the ‘Best Actor – Female Tamil – Diaspora’ award at the film festival.

Sughamaai Subbulakshmi is a movie that revolves around love, friendship, family, pain, and suffering, including some comic relief. The screenplay is carefully crafted by Karthik Shamalan, a talented and multiple award-winning filmmaker who also brought us The Farm: En Veettu Thottathil.

Music scores are left in the capable hands of Shameshan Mani Maran and Neroshen Thanaseharan. This is also the first local Tamil film to collaborate with Sony Music Malaysia.

The film stars Saresh D7, Punitah Shanmugam, Bagya Arivuckarasu, Kuben Mahadevan, and G Crack Karnan.

Sughamaai Subbulakshmi is set to hit cinemas nationwide on the 17th of May 2018. Mark your calendars!
