Fugitive Godman Nithyananda Sets Up His Own Nation, Kailaasa

Fugitive godman Nithyananda has reportedly set up his own country, called Kailaasa. Having been accused of rape, he is currently being pursued by government agencies in India.

The location of this ‘nation’ is not known. A news report, however, claims Kailaasa is a private island, which Nithyananda allegedly bought from Ecuador, and is near Trinidad and Tobago. India Today had earlier reported that the 41-year-old fled the India via Nepal.

Kailaasa has its own website, kailaasa.org, and claims to be a “nation without borders created by dispossessed Hindus from around the world who lost the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries”.

According to cyber experts, the website was created on October 21, 2018 and it was last updated on October 10, 2019. The website has been registered in Panama with its IP located in US’s Dallas.

The website goes on to say that the country is a “safe haven to all the world’s practising, aspiring or persecuted Hindus, where they can peacefully live and express their spirituality, arts, and culture free from denigration, interference and violence”.

It has also called for donations for the country and through it, an opportunity to gain citizenship of the “greatest Hindu nation”, Kailaasa, reported news agency IANS.

The website even has its own Wikipedia page called Nithyanandapedia (nithyanandapedia.org). “Nithyanandapedia is an effort to capture all the knowledge and expressions shared by His Divine Holiness Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam – to have a one-stop-shop combining all His teachings in form of videos, audio, text, books, etc – combined with photographs that try and capture all the services He has offered and continues to offer to the world,” says the page.

According to the website, the Hindu nation also has a flag known as ‘Rishabha Dhvaja’, which features Nithyananda himself, along with Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva.

Nithyananda’s island nation mentions English, Sanskrit and Tamil as official languages. It even claims to have a population of 100 million Adi Shaivites and 2 billion practising Hindus. Kailasaa even has its own passport, that passport allows “free entry in all eleven dimensions and fourteen lokas, including Kailaasa”.

Kailasaa has its own cabinet comprising departments such as health, technology, human services, housing, commerce, and treasury, according to the website. There is also a ‘Department of Enlightened Civilisation’ which will work on reviving Sanatana Hindu Dharma. There is free healthcare, education, food, and the revival of temple-based lifestyle, says the website.

This so-called ‘country’ also claims to eventually have a ‘Dharmic Economy’, and a Hindu Investment and Reserve Bank, where cryptocurrency will also be accepted.

Nithyananda is also accused of allegedly raping his former disciple under the garb of spirituality. He is also being probed in several cases, including torture, kidnapping and wrongful confinement of children, under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
