A huge win for inclusivity!

AR Murugadoss’s Darbar, which features superstar Rajinikanth in the role of a cop after 25 years will be hitting the screens for Pongal 2020. The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander and the first single ‘Chumma Kizhi’ sung by SP Balasubrahmanyam which was released recently has been raking in the numbers. The audio launch of the film is set to happen in Chennai on Saturday.

The latest update is that three Hyderabad-based trans women, who are part of a band called Spicy Girls, recently recorded the song for the film. On bagging the chance one of the singers, Chandramukhi was quoted,

“Darbar apparently features a dance by transgender persons and although initially, the plan was to get a regular singer to render the song with a change in the voice. We three — Rachana, Priya and I — are part of a music band in Hyderabad called Spicy Girls and we sing in gender rights seminars and conferences. […] When this opportunity came, we couldn’t believe our luck.”

A transgender actor Jeeva, who was last seen in Vijay Sethupathi’s Dharmadurai has been roped in for an important role in the film. The film also stars Nayanthara, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar and Yogi Babu among others.

The project marks the Tamil debut of Suniel Shetty and Prateik Babbar, who play the antagonists in this highly anticipated film. While Santosh Sivan will crank the camera, Sreekar Prasad will take care of editing.

The film is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the makers of 2.0. This would be the third outing for Lyca Productions with Rajinikanth after distributing Kaala and producing 2.0.
