Former national footballer and coach Datuk M Karathu will be honoured along with other athletes in a mural in the quiet town of Taiping, Perak.
The Taiping Municipal Council president Borhan Abdul Halim said discussions were being held by the Taiping prison to create the longest mural on the prison wall, depicting Taiping born athletes, such as Datuk M Karathu.
“They are planning to paint the longest mural, spanning 670m on the outer walls of the prison,” he said. “We hope it can begin next year,”
76 year old Datuk M Karathu played for the national team between 1963 and 1970. He began coaching in 1971, and continued to coach various Malaysian teams, including Perak and Kelantan, for the following 44 years.
He is one of the very few Malaysians to coach a foreign national team, the Sri Lankan national football team. He also coached Singaporean Woodlands Wellington FC.
