Malaysian radio personality and film producer Gheetha Ammasee, better known as Punnagai Poo Gheetha, will be starring alongside Shriya Saran in the upcoming Tamil film Sandakari.

Sandakari is a remake of the popular Sandra Bullock film, The Proposal. Directed by R Madhesh, the film also stars Vemal, Prabhu, Sai Kumar, KR Vijaya and Rekha.

This isn’t Gheetha’s first foray into Tamil films. In 2005, Gheetha established film production studio SG Films, and went on to bankroll Arinthum Ariyamalum. She struggled to release the film as the Tamil film industry refused to back a female producer, who is also a foreigner. Gheetha released the film on her own, and it fared excellently in the box office in India and around the world. Arinthum Ariyamalum became a cult classic.

She then funded the hilarious film Kundakka Mandakka, starring Parthiban, Laxmi Raai Vadivelu. Her following film, Pattiyal also emerged a financial success. Gheetha is an accomplished actress too, having starred in multiple Tamil films in India, such as Oru Nadigaiyin Vaakkumoolam, Kaaval and Sangu Chakkaram as well as the Malaysian Tamil movie, Maindhan.

Sandakari also marks Shriya’s comeback since the disastrous Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan. Since, she has been focusing on films in other languages. Her thriller with filmmaker Karthick Naren, Naragasooran, is yet to hit the screens.

Sandakari is expected to hit screens in the first quarter of 2020. Until then, check out the trailer here!
