These 16 Contestants Are Ready To Battle It Out in Rap Porkalam!

The search for the ultimate Malaysian Tamil young rapper has begun with Rap Porkalam.

The auditions having concluded on the 11th of January at the Astro premises in Bukit Jalil. Out of 83 contestants who  auditioned, 16 have been selected to join Rap Porkalam which will premiere on Vinmeen HD CH231 from the 22nd of February 2020 onwards.

The champion will walk home with a cash prize of RM5000 and a collaboration with Sony Music Malaysia to release a debut single.

Check out the 16 talented rappers who will be rocking the stage in the upcoming rounds.

Taseltech, 28

This aspiring rapper, from Kajang, Selangor, prefers to keep his identity and personal life private. In his spare time, he likes to play Scrabble.

Kvin, 21

The youth from Petaling Jaya says he has been ‘addicted’ to rap music and hip hop culture since he was 15. However, due to his family’s situation, he was unable to pursue his dream of making his own music. Kvin says it was the Vallavan album that have inspired him to go down the Tamil hip hop path. In his spare time, he raps, writes lyrics and listens to music from Eminem, Tupac, and Logic. His dream is to become a professional rapper.

Ruben Raj, 27

A teacher by profession, Ruben hails from Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, and shares that music and singing is his passion and a part of his life.

Wheelchair Rapper, 21

From Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, he writes poems and songs from a variety of genres including rap, gaana (Tamil music style) and folk. In his spare time, he likes writing lyrics, and playing with remote-controlled cars. Being an independent rapper has been always his dream.

Naren Zac, 20

Contestant from Kajang, Selangor who recorded his very first track at the age of 16. Two years later, he had a full length underground mixtape. He enjoys reading and singing, and aspires to be an accountant. He believes that success does not just come only by effort but also from God’s blessings.

Silverstate Tamizhan, 28

This contestant is from Tampoi, Johor, and enjoys traveling around Malaysia, especially Ipoh, reading about the concept of a parallel universe and listening to music as well as playing FIFA. He hopes to have a career in forensics. 

Eassya, 24

This beatboxer hails from Skudai, Johor and has been beatboxing since she was 14-years-old. She aspires to be an entrepreneur, and enjoys rapping, singing and cooking in her spare time.

 

Puchi, 20

A contestant from Masai, Johor, who is passionate about achieving his life goals. He aspires to become an artiste to inspire and help others. Giving up is also not part of his vocabulary and believes that life is all about learning. He is not intimidated by the challenge of being from a middle-class background. In his spare time, he enjoys beatboxing, rapping, acting and creating social media content which include skits and vlogs. 

Tharagai, 24

Contestant from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, who is passionate about composing songs and writing lyrics. She wants to become an inspiration to other women on her rap journey. She believes that pain is the secret to success. She enjoys drawing, painting and singing in her spare time and aspires to become a rapper and an architect. Mizta Nesh, 26

Hailing from Mentakab, Pahang, he has faced numerous obstacles in realising his ambition of becoming an independent artist, due to financial restrictions. He views RAP Porkalam as a stepping stone to realising his ambition, and will keep moving towards achieving his goal, no matter how long it takes. In his spare time, he enjoys playing futsal and Indian traditional instruments, such as the urumi melam.Lucifer, 20

Contestant from Pasir Gudang, Johor, who claims the ability to mimic the voice of “any” Tamil actor. He is also a student, who sings as a hobby and aspires to be a rapper.CJ Satish, 27

This aspiring engineer from Skudai, Johor, sang and acted on a TV channel in Singapore. He also enjoys playing games in his spare time.AK Shoun, 27

This post-production crew member from Kajang, Selangor, loves to sing and compose music in his free time. He is also an animal lover, and aspires to be a music director. Madrasi, 19

He hails from Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, and is the youngest of the Rap Porkalam contenders. He started rap battles between local rappers when he was just 14, and he has improved his skills over the years. He views Rap Porkalam as a platform to showcase his talent to the world and realise his dream of becoming a rapper.

CJL, 24

From Skudai, Johor, and refers to himself as an “underground rapper”. He has dabbled in the art since he was 18 and is now looking for a breakthrough. In his free time, the aspiring rapper and engineer likes to play futsal. RakIc Vishun, 20

Contestant from Rawang, Selangor who previously wrote a song, but faced criticism for its lack of success. He insists he will not call it quits until he achieves success. He enjoys singing and writing lyrics, and aspires to “achieve artistry” in the future.Rap Porkalam airs on Astro Vinmeen HD at 7pm, every Saturday, from 22 February 2020.
