Lao Wu, a German Shepherd from the Royal Malaysian Police Detective Unit (K9) has made history as he is the first canine to be honoured with the ‘Jasamu Dikenang’ medal by the Pahang police contingent.
The five-year-old canine received the medal from Pahang Police Chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan who was represented by his deputy, Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basir during the contingent’s monthly assembly in Kuantan. He presented the medal to Sergeant S. Sanmugam, Lao Wu’s handler since 2015. The officer proudly draped the medal onto the calm four-legged crime buster.

Lao Wu was recognised for his efforts in tracking down a vehicle of theft suspect who had fled four kilometres deep into a palm oil plantation in Felda Sungai Tekam, Jerantut on the early morning of Nov 14.
Sanmugam said that he has handled and trained Lao Wu, which was acquired from China, and this is his fourth detective dog in 29 years of service with the K9 IPK unit.
