A major accident on the sets of Indian 2 has reportedly claimed three lives and left more than 10 injured.

Reports are doing the rounds that director Shankar had fractured his leg. However, sources close to the director denied this. They said that the filmmaker was checking the lighting for another scene when the accident took place.

The incident took place at EVP Studios, Chennai, around 10 pm last night. Kamal Hassan had a narrow escape from the incident. He took to Twitter to extend his condolences to the victims and their families shortly after the accident.

“Even though I have been through several accidents the one that happened now is horrific.  The pain that I go through of losing three of my colleagues is nothing compared to that of their families. I share their grief as one of them. My deepest condolences to them”, he said.

According to the initial report, a massive crane tipped over and crashed on the movie lot where the crew was seated, watching the scenes on an LED monitor.  The aftermath of the disaster was captured in images that surfaced in social media.
