Bazaars are a dime a dozen these days, with many Instagram sellers coming forward to peddle their products to the public. There is a bazaar that stands out amidst all of these thanks to the unique moniker of the organisers, Not The Usual.

The seasoned pop up marketplace organisers are back with an Indian themed event, aptly titled Not The Usual Indian Bazaar. This bazaar will be held on the 14th and 15th of March 2020 at The School, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya, from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm.

Started by Aumshree and her brother-in-law Leben, Not The Usual was conceptualised to be an Indian themed event. The duo have a good two decades of experience when it came to event design and execution, under their company, Pinnacle Events Stylist.

Their unique name was birthed from the idea of featuring not the usual items found at bazaars. “Since that was the phrase we kept using throughout our conversation, we decided to call it Not The Usual,” Aumshree shares with us.

Leben knew that this was something right up their alley, and with both their input, it could be magic. And magic it was.

Aumshree handles the design, social media and research for Not The Usual. She is also behind the themes for each event of theirs while designing the promotional material for their marketing. Leben, on the other hand, handles the operations. He ensures that the logistics are in place and the event will be smooth sailing.

The Not The Usual team term their vendors Stars. The Stars are guided on the setup of their booth, the display of their products and they’re given pointers pertaining to on-ground marketing.

“Our first event was held in Jaya One. There were many skeptics who doubted us, and many more who asked, what’s the not usual part about this event? Nevertheless, we soldiered on,” Aumshree confesses. “At the end of the event, we received raving reviews. We were thrilled that our formula had worked,”

The team doesn’t just do bazaars, they have also had some very interesting stage events, including the launch of Indian Raga Lab Malaysia.

Team Not The Usual and their Stars
Not The Usual is going to be creating even more magic in March. In addition to the numerous Stars who will be present, the team has also included a few workshops.
There will be a short course on saree blouse pattern making, this will be a charged event.

“Also, we’re bringing back Self Defense in a Saree and the Survivors Guide to Saree Tying in a Hurry and many more interesting activities,” Aumshree promises.

There will also be two surprise guests who will be giving talks on the day. While the team hasn’t revealed who they are, we are certain that you’ll want to come down to Jaya One to meet up with these amazing people.
