Kamal Hassan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam Helping Malaysians Stuck in Trichy?

Kamal Hassan’s political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has allegedly sponsored food and accommodation for the 150 Malaysians who are currently stranded in Trichy airport.

The Malaysians who were holidaying there could not return home as India has barred all flights from Malaysia, according to reports. Earlier today, the first group of Malaysians stranded in India returned home via New Delhi. 96 of them were on board an Air Asia flight, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

WhatsApp messages and audio notes from those stuck in India mention that the actor’s political party is providing food and accommodation for the Malaysians stranded there. At this point, it is unclear if this is true and to what extent the help is being offered by the Indian political party.

A tweet on the political party’s official handle shows a person announcing the directive to a group of people, possibly the stranded Malaysians.

Malaysian tourists that were stuck in Trichy had timely help from @maiamofficial team led by Zonal Head @MMMTRICHY and other cadres

This is a truly appreciative gesture by the party led by @ikamalhaasan @drmahendran_r 🙌🙏

If these messages are true, it raises a bigger, more worrying question – why is a foreign political party helping the stranded Malaysians? Why isn’t Wisma Putra and the Consulate General of Chennai helping these people out?
