Malavika Mohanan is playing the lead in Vijay’s upcoming film Master. Recently, she called out a Twitter handle belonging to Vijay fans for making a sexist poster. The poster showed the Master team in the same house, the men involved in the project were shown to be relaxing, Malavika was depicted as cooking.
Tweeting the poster, Malavika said, “The task of a woman even in a hypothetical ‘movie house’ is to cook? When will gender roles die? Sigh.” However, as was only to be expected, her tweet was met with many angry responses from Vijay fans.
Following this, the actor deleted her tweet.
Her most recent tweet though shows that she still stands by what she had said. Malavika tweeted the poster made by a social media user which has the same scene but shows Malavika reading rather than cooking.
Malavika responded to the tweet saying that she loved the new version of the poster. She also added that she loves to read.
I love this version! 🤗 And how did you know I love reading?! 😋♥️ #masterquarantine #masterteamquarantine https://t.co/uE6gJReBo4

This isn’t the first time that Vijay fans on Twitter are making a name for themselves for being trolls. Two years ago, Dhanya Rajendran, Managing Editor at The News Minute, was at the receiving end of vicious abuses, often sexual in nature, when she tweeted about how bad the films Jab Harry Met Sejal and Sura were. While this didn’t bother actor Vijay himself, his fans took offense.
More than 48 hours since that first tweet was posted, the hashtag #PublicityBeepDhanya was created and used in more than 30,000 tweets, becoming a trend on Twitter for some time. While support poured in for Dhanya, so did the offensive, derogatory tweets.
Vijay has stayed mum on both incidents.
